Teaching Proverbs 2:9-11 to Your Family | Do Your Children Have Wisdom in Their Heart?
Is pride keeping you from doing something your wife asked, just because it wasn't your idea? Don't be foolish. In this episode of The Resolute Man Podcast, we walk through Proverbs 2:9-11 and show you, dad, how to teach your family that wisdom has to penetrate the heart, not just the head.
Here's how to teach this passage to your family:
1. Start with why wisdom matters right now
Before you read, tell your kids that seeking and receiving wisdom gives us a heightened understanding for navigating these times. Then explain the catch: wisdom has to penetrate the heart.
2. Teach them the picture of morality (v. 9)
Read verse 9 out loud together. Understanding God helps us understand right living, the good path. Walk through the three words:
Righteousness: conformity to a right standard
Justice: applying that standard in decisions and judgments
Equity: fairness in how it's carried out
Ask your kids: "Where do you see a right standard, or fairness, in our home or at school?"
3. Teach them what it means for wisdom to enter the heart (v. 10)
Wisdom enters to stay. It's not just head knowledge, it's transformative. Ask your kids: "What do you think it's like for wisdom to come into your heart?" Then take on the lie that righteous living is boring and worldly living is better. Worldly living hurts your soul. Ask: "Who can explain what a soul is?" Let them wrestle with it before you answer.
4. Teach them how God protects them from the inside (v. 11)
Two guards are named here:
Discretion: seeing the paths ahead in advance, looking forward
Understanding: discerning what's happening right now
God gives us internal protection from external threats. Ask your kids: "What's a situation where you'd need to see trouble coming before you're in it?"

Pray out loud with your wife. Your family needs to witness your relationship with God, or they have nothing real to model theirs after. Before seeking intimacy with your wife, grab her hand, say her name, and pray with her out loud. It's one of the most masculine things a man can do.
AI is already shaping desire. Algorithms learn what your flesh wants faster than you realize, even noticing a half-second pause on content and feeding you more of it. The danger isn't the tool itself, it's a tool that quietly exploits unacknowledged temptation.
Raise fruitful kids, not just more kids. God said "be fruitful and multiply." The crisis is too many fruitless people, kids raised without real discipleship.
This week's challenge: Humble yourself. Do the thing your wife has been asking you to do, even though it wasn't your idea. Then pick one dinner or car ride to read Proverbs 2:9-11 with your kids. It won't be perfect, and that's okay.
